has reportedly been in 'floods of tears' as the 'devastated' former Spice Girl processes allegations of inappropriate behaviour against husband and F1 team boss , who is the subject of an internal investigation following accusations made by a staff member. Horner vehemently denies the claims.

Red Bull have hired an independent lawyer to assist with the allegations, which the team say they are taking 'extremely seriously' and Horner 'completely denies'.

According to The Sun, Halliwell has told friends she will stand by her partner. The report adds the 51-year-old has been in 'floods of tears' over the past few days while insisting Horner has done nothing wrong.

The staff member is understood to have taken the complaint to Red Bull's parent company in Austria, rather than the team's base in Milton Keynes, owing to Horner's high-ranking position in the company's F1 set-up.

Red Bull released the following statement on Monday: "After becoming aware of recent allegations, the company initiated an independent investigation. This investigation, which is already underway, is being carried out by an external specialised lawyer.

"The company takes these matters extremely seriously and the investigation will be complete as soon as practicable. It would not be appropriate to make any further comments at this time."

Horner was joined by a host of other senior figures at an F1 Commission meeting on Monday when news of the investigation broke. He immediately 'moved to address the elephant in the room' by insisting the allegations were untrue, according to The Telegraph.

Reports in Germany indicate that Red Bull have amicably advised Horner to step down from his role, although there is no suggestion the long-serving team principal is prepared to oblige. The staff member's allegations are believed to centre around 'incredibly controlling behaviour'.

Christian Horner lifts lid on 'serious talks' with Lewis Hamilton about joining Red Bull

Horner and Halliwell married in 2015 and they have a seven-year-old son, while they each have an older child from previous relationships. Horner has been the boss at Red Bull for almost two decades, leading the team to seven Drivers' Championships and six team titles.

Sebastian Vettel won four on the spin between 2010 and 2013. Red Bull's success has returned in recent years with Max Verstappen currently on a run of three titles in a row, and the Dutchman will likely threaten a fourth this year.
