Interesting Observations Made By Jeff Dahmer's Neighbor, Vernell Bass
What happened to the pictures on the walls?
Vernell Bass lived across the hall from Jeff Dahmer in the Oxford Apartments. He spent time in Jeff’s apartment hanging out and appears to have considered himself a friend. So, he knew how the apartment looked.
In this clip from an interview Vernell Bass did with a You Tuber several months ago, he said the photos of shirtless men on Jeff's walls weren’t there prior to Jeff’s arrest. He said the first time he saw those photos of shirtless men was when he looked into the apartment after Jeff Dahmer was arrested. Have a listen:
Here’s an image showing those photos on the walls of Jeff Dahmer’s apartment:
Other observations from Vernell Bass…
In his self-published book, Across the Hall, Vernell Bass recounts the day he observed Jeff airing out his apartment to get rid of a bad smell:
He was standing out in the hall with his apartment door open, the air conditioner's fan was on and his apartment windows were wide open. He had the rear hall's exit door open too. (Across the Hall, page 51)
So, "guilty" Jeff Dahmer wasn't at all concerned about opening his door to the main hallway and drawing attention to himself and his apartment. Vernell Bass says in his book that Jeff even borrowed a fan and then returned it the next day.
Contrast that with Jeff Dahmer's confession which mentions how careful Jeff was to "keep people from entering into his apartment and discovering the evidence of his criminal act."
There’s more…
On the night of the arrest, Vernell Bass says he heard the police laughing inside Jeff Dahmer’s apartment:
We could hear the officers and detectives inside Jeff's apartment laughing about something that one of them had found. Someone joking asked if it was large, medium, or small? Another man's voice responded saying, "medium" and the female's voice replied saying something and then more laughter. (Across the Hall, page 71)
If you didn’t know about alleged victim Richard Guerrero’s 1960 death certificate, or that the real name of alleged victim “Eddie Smith’’ was Ernest Richard Smith and that he died in 1999, or that fact that the 15 guilty pleas Jeff Dahmer supposedly signed don’t exist, you might have thought Vernell Bass was making this up.
Its obvious these were props. Knowing what has now been uncovered. Its not like Jeff would have the time to run around taking all the pictures off the walls (including the heavier ones) every time Vernell or the building manager Sopa turned up unannounced:)
