Stars who REGRET their cosmetic treatments: As Jane Fonda admits she's 'not proud' of her facelift, she's not the only celeb who looked better before going under the knife

  • Jane Fonda has spoken of her regret at having a facelift when she was younger
  • The 84-year-old actress told Vogue 'wouldn't do it' if she had her time again
  • She is not the only star who regrets having had cosmetic treatments
  • Courteney Cox, Mickey Rourke and Britt Ekland have all spoken out about it

Hollywood is fixated on how people look, so it is of little surprised so many celebrities have succumbed to the temptation to go under the knife.

But these stories of starry makeovers gone wrong prove that it is not always the right decision.

Actress Jane Fonda, 84, has spoken of her regret at having a facelift when she was younger, admitting that she would not have the procedure if she had her time again.

She told Vogue magazine: 'I had a facelift and I stopped because I don't want to look distorted. I'm not proud of the fact that I had one.

'Now, I don't know if I had it to do over if I would do it. But I did it. I admit it, and then I just say, okay, you can get addicted. Don't keep doing it. A lot of women, I don't know, they're addicted to it.'

Jane is far from the first famous face to regret tampering with their natural beauty. Supermodel Linda Evangelista last month won a lawsuit after claiming a rare reaction to a fat-reduction procedure six years ago left her 'deformed'.

Others, like Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey, have admitted that plastic surgery actually left their career worse off.

Here, FEMAIL reveals the stars who regret having cosmetic procedures...

Fonda just admitted to having some of her own plastic surgery woes.

The 84-year-old actress revealed that she 'is not proud' of her decision to get a facelift and it look so 'distorted' that she vowed off of surgery for good.

She said: 'I had a facelift and I stopped because I don't want to look distorted. I'm not proud of the fact that I had one.'

She has had two facelifts over the years: one in her 40s and the other in 2010.

While admitting to her surgeries, she also confessed that she regretted them.

'Now, I don't know if I had it to do over if I would do it. But I did it,' she explained.

'I admit it, and then I just say, okay, you can get addicted. Don't keep doing it. A lot of women, I don't know, they're addicted to it.'

Jennifer Grey got her first nose job in 1989, just two years after the release of her hit film Dirty Dancing.

Explaining her decision, she told Seth Meyers, 'It was standard to change your last name … and to change your nose so you could be an actor…or just be considered pretty.'

She was happy with how the rhinoplasty came out but after a complication, she underwent constructive surgery and ended up leaving the operating table looking completely different.

Grey not only regrets how it came out but how it affected her career. She opened about her nightmare surgery during an interview with Mirror in 2012.

'I went into the operating room a celebrity and came out anonymous,' she said.

'It was the nose job from hell. I’ll always be this once-famous actress nobody recognizes because of a nose job.'

Former Bond girl Britt Ekland described having filler in her face as the 'biggest mistake of her life' and said she has spent '20 years paying for it'. She said: 'I¿ve had thousands of injections ever since, trying to dissolve them, and there is still some in there. It ruined my career as well as my life physically. I would say to everyone out there: do not do it.' Pictured: Britt as Mary Goodnight in 1974's The Man with the Golden Gun

Britt Ekland made a name for herself as a Bond girl in the world-famous James Bond series.

However, as time went on, Ekland felt pressured to keep up with Hollywood's beauty standards and started getting lip injections.

She would continue to do so for 20 years. However, on Loose Women, she admitted she felt 'it destroyed my looks and ruined my face' and called it 'the biggest mistake of my life.'

She added: 'When I look at photographs of myself before I had it done, I looked very good. I can see that now, but I couldn't see it at the time.'

She has since had the fillers removed and while speaking with Platinum magazine, she shared that she doesn't plan on going under the knife ever again.

'Everyone has the right to choose [surgery]. I did all of that in my 50s but wouldn't consider it again. I have no desire to look any different than I am.'

Linda Evangelista recently settled her $50million CoolSculpting lawsuit after claiming a rare reaction to a fat-reduction procedure six years ago left her 'deformed'. Linda Evangelista was a renowned supermodel in the 90s but she dropped off the scene suddenly.

In 2021, the former supermodel finally explained that the reason she stepped out of the limelight was because of a botched plastic surgery back in 2016.

In statement posted to Instagram, she wrote: 'To my followers who have wondered why I have not been working while my peers' careers have been thriving, the reason is that I was brutally disfigured by Zeltiq's CoolSculpting procedure...'

'[It] did the opposite of what it promised,' she continued. 'It increased, not decreased, my fat cells and left me permanently deformed even after undergoing two painful, unsuccessful corrective surgeries.'

She concluded, 'I have been left, as the media described, 'unrecognizable.''

She even issued a lawsuit over the surgery, stating that it 'destroyed her livelihood' and became a 'recluse.'

Since settling her $50million lawsuit, she has been making more public appearances.

Actor Mickey Rourke, pictured left in 1989 and right recently, has previously said he has undergone cosmetic procedures after injury. He said: 'Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together'

Mickey Rourke was revered for his role in The Wrestler. While the film was a great move for his career, it ended up messing with his face.

He ended up getting corrective surgery to fix his face after filming the 2008 film but the results ended up being disastrous.

'Most of [the surgery] was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together,' he explained.

'I had to have cartilage taken from my ear to rebuild my nose and a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn't healing properly. That was one of the most painful operations, but the worst was haemorrhoids.'

Fresh-faced: Bella revealed she had a nose job at the age of 14 (pictured left in 2010, prior to the surgery) but has admitted she regrets the procedure. She told Vogue magazine: 'I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors. I think I would have grown into it'. Right, Bella in March

Bella Hadid may have one of the most shocking plastic surgery admissions as she revealed she had rhinoplasty done when she was just 14 years old.

However, the 25-year-old model recently admitted that she entirely regrets her decision - especially since she was so young at the time.

'I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors,' she told Vogue in April. 'I think I would have grown into it.'

Hadid is half Dutch and half Jordanian-American - the daughter of reality TV star Yolanda Hadid and real-estate developer Mohammed Hadid.

Her decision to get her nose done was partially inspired by 'having imposter syndrome' and being told she was the 'uglier sister' compared to her big sis Gigi Hadid.

'I was the brunette. I wasn’t as cool as Gigi, not as outgoing,' she explained.

'That’s really what people said about me. And unfortunately when you get told things so many times, you do just believe it.'

Fortunately, she is able to take pride in her modeling work no matter what the haters say.

Leslie Ash, pictured left during her Men Behaving Badly days in the 1990s, revealed she underwent a botched lip plumping procedure in 2002. Speaking about her fillers, seen right in 2003, she said: 'This man-made plastic silicone has been injected into me, gone into the muscles around my mouth and become hard. I had steroid injections which helped soften it a bit but it won’t ever go away.' The actress has issued warnings to those considering fillers

Leslie Ash was known for being in the BBC1 sitcom Men Behaving Badly.

In 2002, she made headlines after pictures of her surfaced after she had a botched lip fillers.

At first, she chalked it up to photoshop but later admitted to getting lip injections.

'This man-made plastic silicone has been injected into me, gone into the muscles around my mouth and become hard,' she said at the time according to to The Sun.

'I had steroid injections which helped soften it a bit but it won’t ever go away.'

Reflecting on the issue with the outlet in 2021, she admitted that she could've picked a better surgeon.

'The only thing I’d say to people is: Do your homework,' she stated.

Courteney Cox has previously said she 'didn't realise' how 'strange' she looked after undergoing cosmetic procedures. In 2017, the actress revealed she had all her filler dissolved. She said at the time: 'I was trying to make it not drop, but that made me look fake... I¿ve had all my fillers dissolved. I feel better because I look like myself.' Courtney Cox was renowned for her role of Monica on Friends. However, little do people know, she was struggling with her appearance as the show aired and thereafter.

She began to get fillers in her face during that time. However, it is a decision that she has since come to regret.

'Well, what would end up happening is that you go to a doctor who would say, "You look great, but what would help is a little injection here or filler there." So you walk out and you don’t look so bad and you think, no one noticed—it’s good,' she told New Beauty in 2017.

She admitted that she got stuck in the loop of trying new doctors and repeatedly going back to fix her face.

'You have no idea because it’s gradual until you go, “Oh sh*t, this doesn’t look right.”'

'And it’s worse in pictures than in real life. I have one friend who was like, “Whoa, no more!” I thought, I haven’t done anything in six months. I didn’t realize.'

She ultimately opted to remove her fillers in 2017.

Victoria Beckham has previously discussed her regret over her 'stick-on' breast implants. In a letter to her younger self published in British Vogue in 2017, Victoria wrote: 'I should probably say, don¿t mess with your boobs. All those years I denied it - stupid. A sign of insecurity. Just celebrate what you¿ve got.' Victoria later clarified that she had her implants removed. Pictured, the singer with the Spice Girls in 1995

Victoria Beckham shot up to fame as Posh Spice of the Spice Girls.

Beckham always had a slim figure so eyebrows were raised when her cup size seemed to suddenly increase.

At first, Beckham denied that she ever had plastic surgery. However, she eventually admitted not only that she had breast implants but that she had gotten them removed in 2014.

'I don't have them anymore,' she told Allure, before joking, 'I think I may have purchased them.'

In 2017, she wrote a letter to herself in Vogue UK voicing regret for having the surgery and then denying it.

'I should probably say, don’t mess with your boobs. All those years I denied it – stupid. A sign of insecurity. Just celebrate what you’ve got,' she wrote.

However, come 2019, Beckham once again denied ever going under the knife.

'I haven't been tempted by a cosmetic procedure, but never say never,' Beckham claimed on The Morning Show.

Heidi Montag before her surgeries in 2006
Reality TV star Heidi Montag famously underwent 10 cosmetic surgeries in a day in 2010 and later said she regretted having so much work done

She said: 'I was definitely way in over my head...I kind of wanted a few enhancements and then it kind of got out of hand. I wasn’t told really the repercussions and what would happen, emotionally and psychically, and the pain I would be in. I was kind of in shock.' (pictured left right in 2010 after her procedures)

The Hills star Heidi Montag made headlines when she infamously underwent 10 surgeries in one day back in 2010.

Those procedures included a mini brow lift, Botox in the forehead and frown area, a nose job revision, fat injections in her cheeks, nasolabial folds and lips, a chin reduction, neck liposuction, had her ears pinned back, a breast augmentation revision, a buttock augmentation and liposuction on waist, hips, outer and inner thighs.

At the time, she raved about her surgeries to People.

'I love my body. I still feel a little fragile, but I've never felt more beautiful and sexier. I didn't know I could have this much confidence,' she enthused.

She added: 'I see an upgraded version of me. It's a new face and a new energy. It's a new person and I feel like almost all of the things I didn't want to be and who I turned into kind of got chiseled away. So I'm very excited for the world to see the new me and a real me.'

However, her feelings have changed drastically over the years and she has come to regret her decision.

In 2016, she told ET that she struggled with watching herself on TV during that time.

'It was the hardest time of my life and I feel like I’ve become a lot stronger from it. And [it] made me look at myself and reflect, "Why did I do that?"' she wondered.

'Maybe I needed to have more confidence and be more secure in who I was and not thinking so much about my eyebrows or my this or that.'

By the time 2019 rolled around, she had told Cosmo that she had felt she made a big mistake.

'I was way too young to make such a life-changing decision and was under so much pressure because it was the beginning of comment sections and negativity and hate on the internet,' she told the outlet.

She continued: 'I was just really self-involved at the time—like so many young people—but I was also on TV where every perceived flaw is amplified.'

'I think I looked in the mirror a little too much. I wish I had waited and not made a decision so young because I have long-term health complications.'

In 2020, she revealed she had had her breast implants removed, posting on Instagram: 'Years ago I underwent breast enhancement surgery. Prior to the surgery, I constantly felt my body was less than, and thought this change would make me feel more whole and more secure about myself. And for a short period of time…it did. But little by little I began struggling with minor health issues that just were not adding up.'

In 2020, Ashley Tisdale admitted to having breast implants.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the Disney Channel star explained the insecurities that lead to her getting the surgery.

'Years ago I underwent breast enhancement surgery,' she wrote.

'Prior to the surgery, I constantly felt my body was less than, and thought this change would make me feel more whole and more secure about myself, she continued. 'And for a short period of time…it did.'

However, she ultimately came to regret the decision as it lead to health problems including 'food sensitivities' and 'gut issues.'

She came to the conclusion that the issues 'could be caused by my implants' and ultimately decided to get her implants removed in 2019.

Simon (pictured pre-surgeries left in 2004) has come to regret his surgeries and Botox including his facelift (pictured right in 2019)

Simon Cowell may be known for being a critical singing competition judge but he has received plenty criticism over the years over his fillers.

In 2018, he even had a facelift called the Silhouette Soft Lift that cost him around $2,000.

'It hurts like hell but it gets rid of sun damage and unplugs all the crap,' he told The Sun of the surgery at the time.

Fans of Britain's Got Talent started to comment on how much work he had done in 2016, causing the judge to admit to The sun that he 'probably did have a little too much a couple of years ago.'

While the 62-year-old relied on Botox for sometime, he admitted to The Sun in April that after years of it, he felt he started to look 'like something out a horror film.'

'There was a stage where I might have gone a bit too far. I saw a picture of me from ‘before’ the other day, and didn’t recognize it as me first of all,' he told the outlet.

He then claimed that he had his fillers removed.

'Eric [his son] was in hysterics. Enough was enough. There is no filler in my face at all now. Zero.'

'There was a phase where everyone was having their faces pumped full of this and the other.'

However, fans noticed in June that Cowell's face looked as if it had completely transformed once again during an appearance on a British talk show.

Kim (pictured left in 2008) admitted she went too far with her Botox (pictured right in 2020)

Kim Kardashian and her family have been slammed for upholding unattainable beauty standards and the reality TV star seems to have some regrets in that regard.

In 2010, the now-41-year-old opened up about a clip on Keeping Up with the Kardashians where it was apparent that she had Botox done.

'On the show you saw I had some bruising around my eyes after the procedure, which is totally natural, but because I hadn’t looked into the side effects, I freaked out,' she wrote.

The star seemed to regret her decision, adding that 'Botox just wasn’t necessary for me at this age.'

However, that hasn't stopped her from using Botox since.

Late country singer Kenny Rogers topped the charts in the 1970s with songs like Lucille.

His fans continued to revere him but started to become concerned when they noticed his face looked drastically different.

In 2006, he fessed up to having plastic surgery.

During an interview with CBS News, he admitted that he had gone through a number of cosmetic surgeries and that he came to miss the way his eyes look.

'I kind of wish I hadn't done it,' he said. 'Looking back at some pictures of myself, my eyes were a lot warmer than they are now, and I miss that.'

He added: 'As you go through life, you make choices. Some are good, some are bad.'

Paltrow insisted she wouldn't touch her face (pictured left in 2009) but ended up getting Botox that made her 'look crazy' and has sworn off of it (pictured in 2022)

Gwyneth Paltrow is now on team anti-Botox after a nightmare experience she once had.

Initially, the actress vowed she'd never get any of it done, telling German OK! magazine in 2011, 'I still refuse to use silicone, Botox or other of those gimmicks out of pure vanity.'

However, by 2013, she admitted to using the injections while speaking with Harper's Bazaar.

'I'll try anything. Except I won't do Botox again, because I looked crazy,' she told the outlet. 'I looked like Joan Rivers!'

Just last year, she further embellished on her unfortunate Botox experience.

'I had a midlife crisis when I turned 40, and I went to go see this doctor. It was a disaster,' she told Harper's Bazaar 2021.

'I didn’t do anything else for a long, long time. I was bruised, my forehead was completely frozen, and I didn’t look like myself at all.'

Kylie admitted to using lip injections (pictured right in 2016) after being insecure about her lips (pictured left in 2010)

Kylie Jenner has become renowned for her lips, even inspiring the infamous cup challenge after claiming it was how her lips got so big.

The reality TV star eventually fessed up that she had been using lip fillers on Keeping Up with The Kardashians in 2015.

'I have temporary lip fillers,' she explained in a private confessional. 'It’s just an insecurity of mine and it’s what I wanted to do.'

'Everyone always picks us apart. I want to admit to the lips, but people are so quick to judge me on everything, so I might have tiptoed around the truth, but I didn’t lie.'

She opened up more about how her insecurities spread while speaking with Complex in 2016.

'This guy I kissed was like, "Your lips are really small, but you’re a really good kisser. I didn’t think you were gonna be good at kissing." It was so rude,” she recalled.

'From then on, I just felt like I saw guys staring at my lips. I felt like no one wanted to kiss me.'

However, she confessed to her sister Kim that she may have gone too far with the fillers.

'Well, I definitely made my lips a little too big at one point,' she said in an interview with Kim for Allure.  'I got excited and felt like I needed to do a lot. And then you guys were like, "Kylie, you need to chill."'

'And then I had to go back and have it fixed, and it was a crazy process. Thank God I didn't end up on Botched.'

Sharon Osbourne has always been an open book when it comes to her numerous plastic surgeries, admitting to spending at least $650,000 in procedures.

It started in 2003 when she got gastric bypass surgery and has gone up until her fifth facelift in 2022

Even though she is well-versed in surgery and has gone back and forth about vowing on and off of surgery, the talk show host fessed up to having one surgery that she completely regrets.

'I'm telling you, it was horrendous. [To the surgeon] I'm, like, "You've got to be f***** joking,' she told The Sunday Times in April of her fifth facelift. 'One eye was different to the other. I looked like a f***** Cyclops. I'm, like, "All I need is a hunchback.'

'I had a full facelift done in October and I looked like one of those f***** mummies that they wrap [with bandages],' she said.

'It hurt like hell. You have no idea,' she added of the cosmetic surgery, which took five and a half hours.

Reid Ewing got his big break on Modern Family. But with fame came insecurity for Reid.

He revealed to Huffington Post that he had body dysmorphic disorder - causing him to obsess over the way he looked.

One day, he decided he looked so 'unacceptably ugly' that he met with a cosmetic surgeon who had told him he needed to get cheek fillers.

'After all the swelling finally went down, the results were horrendous,' he explained.

Admitting his regret, he shared, 'I vowed I would never get cosmetic surgery again even though I was still deeply insecure about my looks.'

'It took me about six months before I was comfortable with people even looking at me. I wish I could go back and undo all the surgeries.'
